Jack Curtis Womble's Obituary
Jack Curtis Womble, age 82 of Melbourne, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017. Jack was born June 7, 1935 in Janesville, Wisconsin to Curtis and Evelyn Womble. At age 11, his family moved to Arlington, Texas. Jack played football on the 1951 State Champion Arlington High School team. He attended Arlington Junior College for 2 years. From 1956 to 1960, he proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard as a hospital corpsman. On December 21, 1956 Jack married Marilyn (Hall) Womble. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1963 with a degree in Forestry Wildlife Management and in 1965 he went to work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service where he worked as a Refuge Manager and Federal Game Warden until his retirement in 1990. He then became a mobility instructor for the Florida Center for the Blind in Ocala and worked there until 2000. In 2010, Jack and Marilyn moved to Melbourne, Florida. In Jack’s free time he loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors and traveling. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in West Melbourne.
Jack is survived by his wife, Marilyn Womble; children, Renee (Ross) Swope, Glen (Kathy) Womble and Steven Womble; brother, Bill (Glenda) Womble and sister, Judie (Tom) Piziali. 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren also survive him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., at Eden Baptist Church, 2405 SE County Road 219A in Hawthorne. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery in Island Grove. Flowers will be accepted but those who wish may make memorials to Audio Bibles for the Blind at www.audiobiblesfortheblind.org.
