Jack Davison Sharp's Obituary
With contented but grieving hearts, the family of Jack Davison Sharp, 101, announce his passing on January 25, 2024. He was born in Steubenville, OH on September 8, 1922 to Willella (Davison) and William Sharp. Soon after high school, he joined the Marines, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic in the Marshall Islands and as an instructor during WWII and the Korean War.
After starting his family with Nancy (Elliott) in Ohio, and tired of the cold, he moved to Ft. Lauderdale in the early 50’s. He raised his family and worked as a sheet metal worker. In 1973, he moved to Alachua, deciding on a property because of a “beautiful oak tree.” As a sheet metal worker, he installed duct work in many local Gainesville buildings that he would proudly point out to his family. He started a farm, raising chickens, cows, pigs, goats, kittens and turkeys. Figuring things out on the fly, he also provided his family a wondrous opportunity to learn about where our food comes from as he had a garden where he grew many delicious vegetables. He was a blood donor, who donated 16+ gallons over the years, and wishes he could have done more. He was also an avid genealogist, tracing his ancestry back to the Revolution. Being a Marine veteran is amongst his proudest accomplishments.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Nancy (1923-1979) married for 35 years, his second wife, Margaret (1928-2017) married for 36 years, his daughter, Margie (1946 – 2006) and his son, Bill (1951 – 2020). He is survived by his grandchildren, Kelly (Michelle), Karen, Kevin (Virginia), Kaylee, and Michael, great-grandchildren Scarlet, Samantha, Maggie, Breanna, Lily and Ella.
He will be laid to rest at Forest Meadows Cemetery next to his first wife, Nancy. An honest-to-goodness Celebration of a Life Well-Lived will be celebrated with family and beloved friends at a later date.
