Jack Thomas “Tom” McCown, Jr., Ph.D.
Dr. McCown passed away on May 27, 2014. He was born in Gainesville, Florida on December 22, 1948. He is a graduate of Summerlin Institute of Bartow and served in the United States Navy. Dr. McCown received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida, Doctorate from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and conducted post-doctoral work at Duke University. His field of study was Physical Chemistry. Dr. McCown worked for the Unilever Corporation in New Jersey and Connecticut for 20 years. He retired to Gainesville, Florida.
He is survived by his son Thomas Christian “Chris” McCown, and two daughters Amy and Katherine McCown; his mother Marilyn McCown, two sisters Nancy Burnap and Janice Scales; a niece and nephew Rebecca and Josh Scales.
A private ceremony will be held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, 325 NW 10th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601.
