Jack Richard "Coach" Hall's Obituary
Jack R. Hall, 87 died at his home in Gainesville on April 17, 2016 after battling cancer. He was born in Apopka, Fl. He played football and basketball at Apopka HS. He attended Newberry College - SC where he got his BS. He lettered in football all 4 years of college. He received his MA at University of Georgia while coaching there also. He coached at Aynor HS in SC and Boone HS in Orlando. He was inducted into the Hall Of Fame at Boone HS in 2005. He made stops at Ft. Jackson, S.C., The Citadel, Charleston, S.C. where he was put in the Hall Of Fame in 2007. He also made stops at Duke University, University of Tennessee before coming to the University of Florida 1970 - 1978. He finished his football coaching with the New York Jets 1979 - 1980. He finished his coaching career at SFCC where he coached tennis and finished 4th in the National Rankings. He was put in the Hall Of Fame in 2013 at SFCC. While coaching he found time to serve 37 years in the US Army retiring as a Colonel.
He was a member for 64 years of the Apopka Elks Club, VFW Post 2811 in Gainesville, Reserve Officers Association, American Legion Post 16 in Gainesville, Orange Lodge No. 36 in Apopka where he has been a member for 60 years, and Gainesville Quarterback Club.
His hobbies are listening to Willie Nelson, watching John Wayne and pulling the one arm bandit at the casinos.
He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Linda Hall. He married Trudy Myers in 1988 and she resides in Gainesville. He has two daughters, Marsha Hall, a nurse at Shands who lives in Newberry, FL. and Nancy Hall, who lives in Sarasota, FL and is retired from Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in St. Pete, FL.
A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 P. M., in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd St. with General Paul Albritton officiating. The family will receive friends, Friday, April 22, 2016 from 5 to 7 P.
