Jack Bloom's Obituary
Jack (John Robert Leo) Bloom was born December 23, 1953 in Buffalo, NY the second of four sons to the late Patricia Seames Bloom and Robert Leo Bloom. He passed away May 14, 2022.
Jack was largely raised by his grandparents, Helen and Fred Seames. They instilled deep religious faith, strong moral values, and a love of learning in him.
A devoted Roman Catholic, he was a parishioner at St. Augustine and Holy Faith Catholic Churches in Gainesville. Jack and Liz (Dr. Elizabeth Williams) married at St Stephens Catholic Church (Miramar, FL) which was partially founded by his grandfather. They were devoted partners-in-marriage for 39+ years.
He earned a B.S. with high honors in Electrical Engineering from UF. He had a love of science, meteorology, electronics, 1970s muscle cars, and computers. Jack dedicated his 45 year career to supporting UF mainframe computing.
Jack is survived by his wife Dr. Elizabeth Williams, three brothers Bill (and Ginny) Bloom, Tom (and Beki) Bloom, and Patrick (and Debi) Bloom. He leaves behind love especially to his cousins Barbara Brooks and Karen Verna, niece Bobbi Lynn Bloom and his Goddaughter Jennifer. He will hold dear a handful of true friends, work colleagues, and church friends. He lovingly entrusts back Liz to the care of her lifelong friends especially Karen and Wayne. He was a beloved grandson, son, brother, cousin, Uncle, friend, and love of Liz’s life.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd St. with Fr. Mike Elias as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL 32606.
