J. Hubert Davis' Obituary
J. Hubert Davis, 95, of Newberry, passed away at his home with family after an extended illness.
Mr. Davis was born November 17, 1928 in Santa Fe (Santa Fee), Florida to Ida and Harry Davis. He attended the historical Santa Fe Elementary School and graduated the former Alachua High School in 1947. He was an electrician by trade and attended Coyen Electrical School in Chicago, IL. He worked as an electrician and estimator his entire life working only for the Hope Family– Jim, Carlos, and Maurice.
Hubert was a devoted and life-long Christian. He was an elder at the former Northeast church of Christ and a member of Glen Springs Road church of Christ until his death. He cherished the many friendships he made through his church family.
He was also an avid farmer/gardener carrying on the knowledge and skills he learned from his father and grandfather before him. Mr. Davis and his wife began a tradition with their family starting in 1976 growing sugar cane and making cane syrup on Thanksgiving. Family, friends and strangers were always welcome, gathering by the kettle, in upwards of 125 people fellowshipping together. In later years, this tradition downsized but the legacy will continue on through his family.
He was married to the love of his life, Claudia Mae Waters Davis, for 55 years prior to her passing in 2005.
He is survived by his son, John H. Davis (Sondra) and daughter, Claudia LaTrelle Davis (Robert), a brother, Richard Davis (Deborah) as well as his six grandchildren, Leanna Roberts (Keith), Diana Kendrick (Dustin), Kristy Morgan (Darran), Byron Davis (Amy), J.J. Davis (Shannon) and Brad Davis (Mallory), fourteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He leaves behind 4 generations of children that were blessed to know and love him as “Papa” and a legacy that shall be passed on for generations to come.
A Memorial service for Mr. Davis will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea , 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry on Friday, September 13, 2024. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The burial will be private.
