Mrs. Idell Owen's Obituary
Idell Owen of Gainesville transitioned to her heavenly home on November 19, 2013, one day following her 90th birthday. She passed peacefully with devoted family members at her bedside.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina on November 18, 1923, she moved to Charleston where she met and married career military man William T. Owen in 1949. As a young married military couple, they were transferred to several areas around the world as their family grew. They were blessed with four children. Eventually they found themselves raising their family in Hialeah, FL where they lived for 21 years. In 1981, seeking a slower pace, the family moved to Hawthorne, FL and finally settled in Gainesville.
Idell provided a stable, safe and nurturing environment as her children grew. The greatest blessing she bestowed on them was the gift of a wonderful childhood.
She will always be remembered as a wonderful cook who allowed her southern roots to blossom in the frying pan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, her five brothers and one sister. Idell is survived by one sister, Nellie Beckham (James Beckham) of Johnson, FL, daughter Cheryl Lombard of Gainesville, son Wayne Owen(Marion Owen) of Miami, FL, daughter Kathy Kavalin (Stephen Kavalin) of Orlando, FL and son William “Pete” Owen also of Miami. She was the grandmother of three boys: Michael, Cory and Nicholas, and the great grandmother of three: Brittany, Evan and Alli.
Family and friends celebrated her life at a private memorial service.
