Ida J. Hiley Rodocker's Obituary
Ida Josephine (Hiley) Rodocker went to be with the Lord on March 19, 2014, at the age of 91, after a brief illness. She was born in Cornwall, New York on March 15, 1923 to Charles Blalock Hiley and his wife, Annabel Piper Hiley. Ida was raised largely by her maternal grandparents, the Reverend Lewis Piper and his wife Ida Belle, near Newburg, New York. When she was 14 she and her family moved to Mt. Dora, FL. She graduated from Mt. Dora High School in 1939 and the family moved to Miami. Ida retired from Pan American Airways in Miami after 26 years and moved to Waycross, GA, then Gainesville FL in 2006 to be nearer family.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil “Mac” McCormick, third husband Jackie Rodocker, brothers Clinton Hiley and Charlie Hiley, sister Susie Read, and daughter Cecelia Ann (McCormick) Sellers. She is survived by sisters Jeanie Brown, Chicago, Helen Gaines and Tillie Read, Orlando, brother Freddie Hiley, Mississippi, sons William Stanley “Stan” Blomeley III (Charity), Gainesville and Lewis Edwin Blomeley (Linda), Albany, Georgia, seven grandchildren - Michele, Christine, Leslie, Ryan, Denise, Robyn and Lori; fifteen great-grandchildren - Jacquelyn, Matthew, Dylan, Emily; Brandon, Lauren; Christopher, Megan, Chelsea; Ariel, Lauren, Alexis; Max, Taylor; Michael; one great-great-grandchild, Jordan; many other relatives and her beloved dog, Peanut.
Ida enjoyed square dancing, travel, reading, music, loved her church, animals, barbershop performances, family reunions and life in general. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and volunteered at Hospice, veterinary clinics, animal rescue, conservation, Gainesville Harvest, her churchs’ Pumpkin Patches, and cared for family members and friends sick and in need. She had a great sense of humor and kept her sharp wit until the end.
A memorial celebration will be held for Ida at the Newberry United Methodist Church, Newberry, Florida, 24845 W. Newberry Rd., Newberry FL 32669-2234, 11:00 AM, Friday, April 11, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Newberry United Methodist Church or to any animal protection/rescue service.
