Hugh Alvin Smith's Obituary
Mr. Hugh Alvin Smith, 100, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in the E. T. York Haven Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
Mr. Smith was born November 24, 1913 in East Milton, Ohio to the late Hugh A., Sr. and Grace Smith. He graduated from Defiance College, and then received his masters from the University of Ohio. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in World War II. He began his teaching career, teaching Physical Education and later History in the Hollywood, Florida school system. He was a member of the Hollywood Methodist Church. Mr. Smith enjoyed playing golf and horseback riding. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, in 2005.
Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Smith, of Gainesville; a son, Hugh A. Smith, of Frankfort, KY, and one grandchild.
Mr. Smith will be laid to rest privately in Florida National Cemetery.
