Horace William Pierpoint's Obituary
Horace William Pierpoint, age 89 of Gainesville, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida. He was born February 4, 1929 in Yonkers, New York to Horace and Mary Ellen Carey Pierpoint. In high school, Horace was a NYC track star miler. He proudly served in the National Guard and was a specialist in heavy weapons. Horace retired in 1986 from Philip Morris after 38 years of service. He was an avid golfer, an excellent swimmer and overall sportsman. Horace loved spending time with his family, providing them with many wonderful adventures and memories.
Horace is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sarah T. Pierpoint; children, John Pierpoint (Heather) of East Northport, NY, Rich Pierpoint of Kings Park, NY, and Lynn Meilick (Otto) of Moorestown, NJ; three grandchildren, Dawn (Vincent) Grzan, Elizabeth M. Pierpoint, and Otto H. Meilick, and great-granddaughter, Gabriella. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Catherine Pierpoint.
Arrangements are under the care of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 N Main Street. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231, or the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
