Henry Gallops, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Henry Marion Gallops, Sr., 94, of Alachua, Florida, died Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the E. T. York Haven Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.
Mr. Gallops was born in Hilliard, Florida on October 13, 1929, to the late Marion and Mattie Gallops. He lived for many years in south Florida, before returning to north Florida in 1995. Mr. Gallops was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served during the Korean War, with posts in Korea, Japan and Alaska. After leaving the Navy, he began a long career as a technician with Western-Electric, until his retirement in 1985, after which he spent much of his time traveling.
Mr. Gallops was a member of the Masonic Lodge, first in Hilliard and later at the High Springs Lodge and was a past Worshipful Master. He was a Ford Mustang enthusiast and enjoyed leatherworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mrs. Wanda Gallops who passed away in February of 2024.
Survivors include one son, Henry M. (Kai) Gallops, Jr.; his daughter, Deborah Jean (Joseph) Slinger; three grandchildren; Karly Gallops, Joey Slinger, and David (Stephanie) Slinger, and three great grandchildren; Wesley, Grayson, and Murphy.
Graveside services with both military honors and Masonic rites will be held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery in Hilliard.
