Helen M. Sanderson's Obituary
Helen M. Sanderson went peacefully to her Lord on December 3, 2018 at E. T. York Hospice Care Center. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 13, 1932 to Francis and Crystal Mahoney. Studying voice at a very early age led her eventually to the Met, where she sang for a number of years before moving to Florida. She continued her love of opera as well as sacred music all her life.
She was a gracious, generous, caring, loving person, always a “Lady.” At the time of her death, she was a member of First Presbyterian of Starke having previously been a longtime member of First Presbyterian, Gainesville, where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir and established “The Helen Sanderson Choral Scholarship Fund” to help UFL students.
She is survived by her loving and devoted family, Dr. Don and Bonnie McGarity. Helen was preceded in death by her late husband, William Sanderson. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Coffey and Dr. Perry Foote for their love, care and support during her illness.
A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to “The Helen Sanderson Choral Scholarship Fund,” First Presbyterian Church, 106 SW 3rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32601, to continue her great love of helping UFL students.
