Hazel Browning Daniels' Obituary
Hazel Browning Daniels, 85, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.
Mrs. Daniels was born on May 6, 1929 in Goochland, Virginia to the late George and Katie Hodges Browning. She grew up in the Richmond area, and was runner-up in the Miss Richmond contest, and attended William & Mary College in nearby Williamsburg. As a young lady she was an avid dancer and dance instructor at the Arthur Murray School of Dance. Mrs. Daniels lived in Florida for the majority of her adult life, working as an accountant at the Barsco Supply Company in Jacksonville and later in the Fiscal & Accounting Department of the University of Florida, where she retired in 1992. She owned and operated, along with her husband, Daniels Suzuki Center in Gainesville. She attended Lake Forest Baptist Church in Gainesville, and was preceded in death by her son, David R. Garrett. Mrs. Daniels loved animals, and especially her dogs, Tony and Elvis. She also spent many happy hours crocheting colorful blankets and other items as well as assisting and supporting Robert in all his many life-long racing activities.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert N. Daniels; sister-in-law, Barbara Ann (Keith) Polinkas of League City, TX, sons, Scott of Virginia Beach, VA and Sean of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, June E. Daniels (Carl Heine) of Jacksonville Beach, FL, son, Christopher Owens of Orange Park, FL; granddaughters, Brianna & Madison; daughter-in-law, Julie Garrett of Powhattan, VA; granddaughter, Jessica Reed of Richmond Hill, GA, and great-granddaughters, Alexis & Kyleigh; 1st cousins, Dr. Russell (Nancy) A. Bourne of Jupiter, FL, Becky Raynor of Raleigh, NC, Helen Taylor of Goochland, VA, Thomas E. Wiltshire of Mechanicsville, VA and Debbie (John) Sibley of Rockville, VA and close friends, Ruby Pauling of Bell, FL, Judy Salah of Gainesville, FL and Imgard Hilton and family of Panama Beach, FL.
Due to previous planned events and family travel arrangements, the Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville. Flowers will be appreciated, or donations may be made to the Alachua County Humane Society, 4205 NW 6th Street, Gainesville, FL 32609.
