Harold Monroe "Hal" Mashburn's Obituary
Mr. Harold Monroe “Hal” Mashburn, 88, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018, in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.
Mr. Mashburn was born in Akron, Ohio on Jun 12, 1930, to the late John Harvey and Florence Mashburn. He grew up in Miami, Florida, graduated from Miami Senior High School, and shortly after, began a long career with Southern Bell. Hal had an amazing gift with both communication equipment and people and soon rose to management, eventually transferring to Gainesville in 1971 as operations manager, a position he held until his retirement after 35 years in 1982. After a short retirement, he began using his skills to help design, build and maintain radio stations for BBN, the Bible Broadcasting Network, as they began building radio stations throughout Florida . He continued his relationship with BBN, until only very recently when his health forced his retirement after 35 years. Mr. Mashburn was an active member of Westside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two children, Janice Lynn Mashburn in 1974 and a son, Gary Cosper, in 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Billie Mashburn; a son, Scott (Rhonda) Mashburn, of Gainesville; four daughters, Judy (Jack) Crannell, of St. Augustine, Marian (Allan) Rutherford, of Defuniak Springs, Wanda Bryan, of Wewahitchka, and Judy (Gail) Garrels, of Molena, GA. Twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 10:00 A. M., at Westside Baptist Church, 10000 West Newberry Road, with Dr. David Chauncey and Dr. Gary Crawford, officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Central. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 A. M.
