Greg Gresh's Obituary
Greg Gresh, age 71 of Gainesville, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 in E.T. York Care Center. He was the son of Michael and Ann Gresh, the fifth son of nine children, Ted, Vern, Bob, Herb, Greg, John, Mary, Ann and Michele. He started his own glass business while in high school at age 15. He told his mom as a child that he hated cold weather and was moving to Florida when he grew up, which he did.
Greg was very much loved. He managed to always find time for any person who needed him. He was a very giving and humane person. Greg owned and operated Alachua Tel Com for a good many years and his trucks were all over town keeping up phones for business people and also gave people good jobs. He was a Gainesville Rotarian and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award and was a lifelong entrepreneur. Greg became a creative furniture artesian making beautiful driftwood tables for designers from New York to California and abroad. He was also a wonderful chef, even owning his own restaurant with his brother Bob in Staten Island, NY; they called it the Golden Alica. Greg was a big influence in A.A. and sponsored many people through the years and was very much loved for all the work he did for them and the Triangle Club. He was also active in St. Augustine Catholic Church, having come from a large Catholic family.
Greg was beloved and known by his family as “Gregie Fix” as he was very handy at fixing about anything. He was also an accomplished trumpeter.
Greg died after a short illness of stage 4 cancer on August 16, 2014 and he will be greatly missed.
Greg was the very loving husband of Norine Gresh, whom he met here in Gainesville. They had 3 children, their daughter, Teresa “Tess Gresh”, 2 step children, older sister, Michele Gresh and younger brother, Charles Rivenbark; 3 grandchildren, Raychele, Frankie and Dylan and great grandchild, Rylan Estell Williams of Palm Coast. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Herb and John and 3 sisters, Mary, Ann and Michele, all of Unionville, CT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., in St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1738 West University Avenue, with Fr. Marek Dzien as celebrant. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 21, 2014, 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street.
