Gracie Rowe Wakefield's Obituary
Gracie Rowe Wakefield, 94, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, in Jacksonville, Florida. Gracie was born in Coleman, Florida on December 7, 1926, to Aaron Chestine and Zebbie Joanna Thompson Rowe. Gracie cherished her family and friends; they were her true joy and love in life. She was a wonderful Mama, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Gracie was a woman of faith and a long-time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Johnson, FL. She also enjoyed, and was very skilled at growing African violets.
Gracie is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Blanch Elizabeth Whitten.
Gracie is survived by her three children; Karen Wakefield, LeRoy Wakefield, and Beverly Kaye Moody (Ken) and stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Rowe; three grandchildren – Holly Harmon, Aaron D. Rowe, and Joanna Hill (Collin); three great-grandchildren – Julian Harmon, Lillie Rowe, and Baby Hill (who will join the family in June 2022); Gracie’s brother- Aaron W. Rowe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021, 1:00 PM at Nichols Cemetery in Oxford, Florida with Pastor L.D. Osteen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your local community hospice. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at hospice who took tender care of our Mama and offered encouragement and support to our family.
