Grace Montgomery Burr Hawkins' Obituary
Grace Montgomery Burr Hawkins, 87, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, April 2, 2025.
Grace grew up in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, where she lived through high school. Grace then went on to receive a teaching degree at American University in Washington, DC.
It was in Washington that she met her husband, Larry K. Hawkins. Soon after, they settled in Gainesville,
Florida, where they raised their three children.
Grace was an accomplished painter and some of her favorite subjects were scenes from Fishers Island, NY, where she spent her summers through her teens at the family cottage on the Peninsula.
In Gainesville, Grace was very involved with her Mormon Church, where she enjoyed singing and teaching young students.
Grace is survived by her brother Elbert Burr, her children, Lawrence Hawkins and his wife Zulma; Christine Hawkins and Andrew Hawkins and his wife Mabel; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Mormon Church, 3745 NW 16th Blvd, in Gainesville, April 26 at 2:00 PM. Her ashes will be buried on Fishers Island at a later date.
