Gordon William McCardle's Obituary
Gordon William McCardle, 78, passed away on February 1, 2023, in Gainesville, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to so many. Born July 20, 1944, in Moultrie, Georgia, to the late Isaac Marion and Agnes Leona McCardle.
Gordon spent most of his early life in South Georgia before moving to Miami with his family during his school years. It was there he attended Southwest Senior High and met his wife of 58 years, Laurie. Gordon and Laurie were wed in Miami, Florida, in 1964 and went on to have four children together.
During his early 20s, after an extensive study of the Bible, Gordon was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and devoted himself to the ministry, which he continued throughout his entire life.
In 1977, Gordon and Laurie relocated the family to North Florida, where they lived until his death. Gordon's professional career was in the electrical industry, where he worked in various capacities for 49 years across two companies: 29 years with Florida Power & Light and later an additional 20 years with Suwannee Valley Electric Co-op. Gordon's life was devoted to helping those around him, and he found the most joy in his family.
He was respected for his truthfulness, unwavering faith, and dedication to his loved ones. Everyone privileged enough to know him will have fond memories of him as an honorable man of poise with a unique sense of humor. Gordon was simply one of a kind and will forever live on in our minds and hearts.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Laurie McCardle of Newberry, FL, and his four children: Theresa Adams (Troy) of Fort White, FL, Danielle McCardle of Newberry, FL, Luke McCardle (Shauna), and Joshua McCardle (Kristie) both of Lake City, FL. His five grandchildren: Lindsay Higgins, Jonathan Adams, Lauren McCardle, Ivey McCardle, Lexi McCardle, and great-grandson Mason Adams; his brothers: Ray, Jerry, and Ronnie McCardle, all of Lake City, FL.
The family will hold a memorial service in the coming weeks. They invite everyone who knew and loved Gordon to attend. A memorial service to celebrate Gordon's life will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Alachua, FL, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 4:00 P.M.
