Glee Dudgeon Biery's Obituary
Glee Dudgeon Biery passed away, peacefully, in her assisted living facility in Gainesville Florida on May 18th, she was 98 years old. Glee was born in Saginaw, Michigan on June 28,1926. Following her graduation, she married John Carlton Biery and moved from Michigan to Ames, Iowa; Madison, Wisconsin; Denver, Colorado; Los Álamos, New Mexico; and Tucson Arizona. In 1971, she moved to Gainesville, Florida with her husband, John Biery and two children, Gay Biery and John Biery.
Glee was an accomplished artist. She loved painting beautiful surroundings, portraits and, of course, all of her cats. She had a love for music and, after graduating with a master’s in music education, she gave piano lessons to children in her home. Glee loved cats and had many throughout her lifetime. Glee, and her husband (Jack, purchased a house in Crested Butte, Colorado in 1967, which is still in the family, today. This was an annual summer vacation for all in the family and many friends. After the death of her husband in 1981, she traveled to Crested Butte every summer loaded up in one of her small Honda Civics full of luggage and, of course, her cats. There were three cats that made the trip regularly and offered her companionship and excitement. She was lucky enough to have made that trip up until 2009.
She was lovingly known as “Oh Be Gleeful” in Crested Butte and made many friends she met along the sidewalk as they passed by her house on the main street of town. Other friends were made as she visited local shops and restaurants and during the annual arts festivals where she purchased items from local artists. She was an advocate for conservation and placed a large portion of land into the Crested Butte Land Trust, assuring it remained the same as it was when purchased in 1963.
Glee is survived by her daughter Gay Biery Hamilton (Vance) and John Biery (Karen). Two grandchildren Gabriela (Gay and Vance) and Shane (John and Karen) along with two great grandchildren Kasen and Austin (Shane and Jessica). She was preceded in death of her husband John Biery, her true love.
