Gladys Torres Munoz's Obituary
Gladys (Torres) Muñoz passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 19th at 6:33 p.m.. She is survived by the love of her life for almost 70 years, her husband Agustin, and her five daughters, Gladys Maria, Carmen Margarita, Maria de los Angeles, Maria del Rosario and Mirya Teresa; three sons- in-law, 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, two nieces: Maria De Angel and Thelma Ramírez, and a nephew, José Ramón Ramírez and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and two older sisters, Daisy and Thelma, and by two grandchildren Teresa Maria and Ellen Marie.
Gladys graduated from the University of Puerto Rico as a Registered Dietitian and worked at the VA Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She worked with Caritas Internacional in Madrid, Spain, and later worked as a Clinical Research Dietitian at St. Patrick Hospital in Rio Piedras, PR. Throughout her career, she was invited to speak in schools and international events on children’s nutrition. Yet, she always said that her greatest accomplishment and source of pride was being a mother and a wife. Gladys was an active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she was a founding member and helped organize and coordinate the Adoration Chapel among other ministries. She was a bridge between the diverse communities within the congregation.
Her life was a celebration of love, joy, deep faith, and a life lived in service to others. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32607. Burial will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Visitation and prayer will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Peace Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to support the Parish Medical Mission to Haiti, or Catholic Relief Services or in support of your local food pantry.
