Gilbert "Gil" James Moreira's Obituary
Gilbert (Gil) James Moreira, age 78, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Somerville, MA, grew up in Miami, FL and lived in Gainesville, FL off and on for the past 45 years.
He served in the U.S. Army and earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Florida in 1975. He taught High School and was a coach for many years and was affectionately known as “Coach Mo”.
Gil was passionate about classic cars and car shows, 50’s music, old musicals, his family, friends and his Florida Gators.
Gil is survived by his wife, Marilyn Lewis Moreira; his daughters, Kim Moreira Todd, Kara Hampton Hales and Tobi Hampton Bowers; his sons-in-law, Kevin Hales and Brian Bowers and his grandchildren, Alexander Hales, Brandon Hales and Zoey Bowers and dear friends from every stage of life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Gil to, Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464.
A gathering to celebrate Gil’s life will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street.
