Giacomo Joseph Marotta Jr.'s Obituary
Giacomo Joseph Marotta Jr. age 78, died peacefully early Thursday morning April 15, 2021. We all knew him as ‘Jack’ and he was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 29, 1942. A graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Chemistry and a Captain in the US Army, serving in both Vietnam and Italy. After Italy, Jack and his 2 brothers built many houses near the Marotta family farm in DeMotte, Indiana. He loved telling stories about all the good times that he had growing up on the farm. In the late 1970s, Jack moved his family to Florida. Jack was a loving and devoted father and husband. His wife Sandy preceded him into Heaven in May 2018. As president of Lake Community Development, Jack helped build dozens of houses in central Florida for low-income families so that they could have their own home. Jack enjoyed watching old westerns, mysteries and crime movies. His favorite poem was "Invictus" by William Ernest Henley. He is survived by his 3 children: Andrea ‘DeDe’ Mills (Patrick), Timothy Michael Marotta (Jessica) and James Scott Marotta (Helen); 6 grandchildren: Angelina, Taylor, Victoria, Vanessa, Jonathan and Nicholas; and 3 great-grandchildren: Luke, Brinley and Olivia. A funeral mass will be held on June 3rd at 2pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jacksonville (601 Airport Center Dr. East). The funeral will be held at 10:30 am June 4, 2021 at Jacksonville National Cemetery (4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL).
