Geraldine (Jerry) Fowler Shockley
Geraldine (Jerry) Fowler Shockley entered into eternal peace on Sunday, October 22, 2017 in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on August 14, 1925 to Grace and Thomas Fowler in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1943, Jerry married William (Bill) Shockley. Five years later, they moved to Gainesville, Florida where they were partners at Shockley Plumbing for 30 years. Jerry and Bill were married for 50 1/2 years at the time of his death in 1992. Jerry was also predeceased by her parents, two sisters (Grace Betsill and Louise McDonald) and an infant son (Ernest Thomas Shockley). Survivors include nieces Linda Sward (husband Chick) of Atlanta, Georgia and Barbara Dortch of Pensacola, Florida; nephew Robert Betsill (wife Adela) of Atlanta, Georgia; brother-in-law Jerry Shockley (wife Lynda) of Atlanta, Georgia.
Jerry was a member of Northwest Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida. Her faith and devotion to God were evident in the way she lived every day of her life. Jerry’s great sense of humor perfectly supplemented her warm and loving personality. She loved reading mysteries and devotional books, as well as her Bible. Jerry was an avid animal lover, especially of dogs, cats and birds. As one of the Florida Gators biggest fans, she never missed watching a game, even in the last weeks of her life.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the following ladies for their outstanding care and love shown to Jerry day and night: Betty McKnight, Michelle Marquart, Denise Eldridge, Denise Morgan, Dora Greenwood and Deborah Wise-Guitton.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 N. Main Street, Gainesville, Florida. Family will receive friends one-hour prior, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Reverend Bill Davenport.
Interment will be at Resthaven Garden of Memories, 2284 Candler Road, Decatur, Georgia on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
