Geraldine "Gerry" Smith Pruitt's Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Geraldine “Gerry” Smith Pruitt of Alachua, Florida, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Her loving family held constant vigil during her final days and are comforted that she is now in God’s hands. Gerry was born in Topeka, Kansas, on January 22, 1933 to John and Estel Smith.
Gerry was happily married 65 wonderful years to Edgar L. Pruitt, Jr. of Alachua, Florida. Gerry spent 22 years supporting her husband’s Air Force military career. They retired in 1973 and moved to Alachua, Florida. Then she worked in Accounting for the State of Florida HRS before retiring.
Gerry loved spending time with family and friends. She was a wonderful Mother who cherished and loved her family as dearly as they loved her. She had a warm sense of humor and a fierce devotion to her faith and family.
Gerry will be missed by all who knew her, but especially her husband Edgar L. Pruitt Jr.; her daughter Terry L. Sagar and son-in-law Robert Sagar; her son Edgar (Eddie) L. Pruitt III and daughter-in-law Talita Pruitt; grandchildren Stacy Deczynski and husband James Deczynski, and Robert (Bobby) Sagar; sister Helen Turner and brother-in-law Warren (Doc) Turner, and brother Dean Smith and sister-in-law Sharon Smith, sisters-in-law Lois Smith of Topeka, Kansas, and Delverta Smith of Oklahoma; and great-grandchildren Nikki Sagar, Aubry Deczynski, Christian James Deczynski, and Violet Deczynski and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were brothers Donald E. Smith, George A. Smith, and Johnny J. Smith.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alachua, 14005 NW 146th Ave. with Rev. Doug Felton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Memorial Park West.
