Gerald Howell Thomas' Obituary
Gerald Howell Thomas, 79, resident of Melrose, Florida, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Thomas was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 9, 1938, to the late Marion Byars, Sr. and Wincie Sloan Thomas. He grew up in Jacksonville, graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, and then joined the U. S. Air Force. He graduated from Santa Fe Community College, and began a long career in computer technology. Mr. Thomas was a Christian who loved the Lord, and was active in his church. He loved tending to a garden and fishing. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Byars Thomas, Jr., and a sister, Geraldine Sloan Pendzick.
Survivors include; two daughters, Angela Swilley, of Gainesville, and Cheryl (Michael) Robinson, of Montgomery, TX; his former wife, Carol Thomas, of Middleburg; a brother, James Robert Thomas of Pensacola; a sister, Audrey Thomas Duryea, of Middleburg; three grandchildren, Jordan Swilley, Collin Robinson, and Paisleigh Robinson.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 P. M., in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville, with Rev. Jim DuBois, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Waldo, officiating. Interment will follow in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, on Monday.
