Gerald "Jerry" Siegel's Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Jack Siegel passed peacefully on February 4, 2017, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida at the age of 90. Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores Siegel, daughter Jodi Siegel (Robert Robins), of Gainesville; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Hyman of Tampa, Kayla Robins, of Atlanta, GA, Bridget (Kadah) Fultz-Siegel and Evan Robins, of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Brock and Kyler Hyman of Tampa. He was preceded in death by his sons, Henry and Andrew Siegel.
Jerry was born on March 11, 1926, in New York City. He attended Princeton as an engineering student until he was recruited by the U. S. Army to serve as a munitions instructor in World War II. He lived for 50 years in South Florida before moving to Gainesville in 2014. He was a district manager for discount stores for many years, then as an avid philatelist became a full-time stamp dealer. He loved to play poker, watch the Miami Dolphins, and spend time with his grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 2:00 P. M., in the B’nai Israel Cemetery, at the corner of Waldo Road and University Avenue, with Rabbi David Kaiman, of Congregation B’nai Israel, officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jerry’s long and loving life. The family would like to thank the Veterans Hospital, Shands Hospital of Gainesville and Haven Hospice for their care and dedication.
