Gerald Melvin Jones' Obituary
Gerald Melvin Jones, age 76 of Gainesville, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 in North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was born and raised in Brushy Creek, near Sparks, Georgia, to Melvin Hezekiah and Myrtle Eloise Mathis Jones, where he grew up on the family farm. He attended Berry College in Rome, GA and Florida College in Temple Terrace, FL. Mr. Jones was a district manager with Southern Life and Health Insurance. After he retired, he served as an elder in Glen Springs Church of Christ and devoted his life to serving others through Christ. He was instrumental in the design of the church building. Mr. Jones was the beloved patriarch of his family.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine Johns Jones; daughters, Jennifer (Steve) Wallace and Deanna Jones, all of Gainesville; brother, Charles (Lynda) Jones of Covington, GA; sisters, Betty Ann (Benny) Bryan of Blackshear, GA and Sandra Gail Taylor of Ooltewah, TN; uncle, Lindel Jones; grandchildren, Brett, Marie, Nikki, Kevin, Caitlin, Joshua and Nathan and great grandchildren, Roman, Jackson, Hayes, Audrey, Cohen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Sue and Naomi.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 12:00 p.m., in Glen Springs Church of Christ, 2214 NW 31st Avenue, with the honorable Mark Moseley officiating and eulogy by Dr. T. Mark Lloyd. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Central Mausoleum.
