Georgia Lawson Yates' Obituary
A dearly loved wife, mother and grandmother, Georgia Lawson Yates, of Alachua, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017, after a long illness.
She was born in Live Oak, Florida on April 13, 1929, to W.G. and Bernice Lawson. Georgia later moved to Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School. She married her caring and beloved husband George Yates on September 4, 1949. George was her best friend and they had a loving and happy marriage for 67 years.
Georgia is survived by husband George Yates, her son Larry (Beth), daughter Marsha Sapp (Barney) and four grandchildren, Courtney Lang (Jim), Alyson Yates, Shelby Sapp, Caleb Sapp and great grandson Henry Lang. She is also survived by her sister Emma Jean Jenkins of Live Oak, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Sonny Lawson and sister Camilla Leahy.
While in Gainesville she was a choir member and actively involved in UMW at Wesley United Methodist until moving to Alachua in 1980. She then became active at First United Methodist of Alachua in the choir, UMW and other church groups. Georgia loved her family, church, gardening, cooking and going to Gator baseball games. She will be especially missed by her loving husband, George and her family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church of Alachua. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMW at First United Methodist Church of Alachua, 14805 NW 140th St, Alachua, FL 32615.
