George Wesley Davis' Obituary
George W. Davis went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who he loved more and more each day, on Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016, unexpectedly. The happiest years of his life were after he received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and served Him as a deacon and head usher and greeter at Orange Heights Baptist Church, where he was a dedicated member.
George proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the City of Gainesville Parks Division with 25 years of service. He then worked a short time with Alachua County Parks Department and then opened his own landscaping business, working another 22 years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, traveling and working in the yard, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.
George leaves behind precious memories to treasure,to his wife Jullie Davis the love of his life and best friend; daughter, Renee Harp (Terry); son, George “Wesley” Davis, Jr. (Julie); grandchildren, which he was so proud of, Krissy Parmeter , Carrie Connell, Lindsay Lowery, Brian Davis, Christina Davis, Lance Davis and great grandchildren, Ty, Kylie, Natalie, Urijah, Emily, Hayden, Claire, Braxton, Emersyn and Baby Connell due in May. George is also survived by his sister, Jane Dampier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Eunice Davis; brothers, Ray Davis, Oscar Davis and Ralph Davis and sister, Helen Dampier.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at Orange Heights Baptist Church, 16700 NE State Road 26, Hawthorne, with Pastor Aaron Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery in Windsor. The family will receive friends Friday, March 25, 2016, 5:30pm to 7:30pm at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orange Heights Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of George, 16700 NE SR 26, Hawthorne, FL 32640.
