George Mikel "Mike" Amos' Obituary
Mikel "Mike" Amos, age 60, of Hawthorne, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at UF Shands in Gainesville. Mike was born on October 10, 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida and son to John and Vernadell Amos. In the early 1980s, he was a reserve officer for the Clay County Sheriff's Department. He also co-owned Amos Automotive in Orange Park with his brother John for fifteen years where he then moved to the Hawthorne area. During the mid-1990s, he went into business with his younger brother Jerry and formed A & A Automotive in Gainesville. After almost ten years, he joined the Alachua County Public Works Department as a Senior Fleet Technician maintaining fire-rescue vehicles. In his spare time, he was an avid woodworker and loved working in his workshop. He also enjoyed bowling, and reading. Most of all, he will be remembered by those who knew him for his quiet and giving spirit.
Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy; his daughter, Megan; and his siblings: John (Diane) Amos, Janice (Terry) Hovsepian, Debra (Steve) Burns, and Jerry (Robbi) Amos and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, August 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME IN HAWTHORNE, US 301 South at Lake Avenue, with Pastor Carley Pearson officiating.
