Gary L. Halberstadt's Obituary
Gary L. Halberstadt, age 74 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at his home. He was born September 21, 1944 in Urbana, Illinois to Ralph C. and Ullman B. Hinners Halberstadt. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, and retired as Major after 20 years. He was an avid Bears fan. Above all, Gary’s family was his world. He was a devoted father, and never missed a game or performance of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his two children, Leigh P. Mace (Brad) of Gainesville, and Shane J. Halberstadt (Catherine) of Palm Bay; grandchildren, Evie Halberstadt, Madden Halberstadt, Brennen Mace, Abigail Mace, and Gavin Halberstadt; brother, Howard Halberstadt, and best friend and ex-wife, Sandy Gambrell.
The family will receive friends at their home on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to celebrate Gary’s life. Funeral Services with military honors will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
