Gail Abbey Sheffield, 73, peacefully passed away in the early mornings of August 8, 2019 at home after battling terminal cancer over the past three years. She was born in Binghamton, New York to Walter Abbey and Virginia Grace De Read Obituary
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Gail Sheffield. I met her and her friend Karen Bradley some years before 2010, when I was volunteering at the LDS Family History Center in Gainesville, Florida. She was a wonderful lady and I always looked forward to seeing her and Karen on Thursday nights at the Family History Center. She was always accomodating to me, patiently listening to me talk on and on about one of my latest family discoveries. I didn't know her or her family so much, on a personal basis, but she always made Thursday a special night, when she showed up. I am grateful that she was a part of my life, even if it was only for a few hours each week. May Heaven's blessings be upon you dear lady and upon your family.

My dear Gail we shared so many wonderful years at GHS. I am so grateful i moved back and had our great lunches with the GHS girls. You were such a special friend and i am so blessed to have known you. More than twenty years ago, I met Gail at my first visit to the Family History Center. in Gainesville I was just starting research into my family history, and Gail (along wtih our mutual friend Bob Burton) were wonderfully helpful. Gail and I bonded immediately - we later discovered why. Our birthdays are only a few days apart in April (both headstrong Aries!), and we are distant cousins through our New England-New York- French Canadian - Salem witches ancestry. I cherish my memories of my friendship with Gail: traveling to libraries to do genealogy research, landscape planning, perusing antique furniture and tableware. She was a wonderful, wonderful cousin-friend, and I am grateful for her presence in my life.
A few years ago I met Gail at one of our GHS lunches. We talked so much It felt like we knew each other forever. She let me know right away that we were related. Then she said "by marriage." She had found out in her researches that Felton and Chris were distant cousins. Since then we always said we were related. She was one of the sweetest and kindest ladies I ever met. Chris and I had bought many roses from their nursery many years ago. She will be sorely missed by this relative, family, friends, and GHS classmates. I love you, Gail, and will miss you tremendously, but will see you again one day!
