Frankie Anita Hammond's Obituary
Frankie Anita Hammond, 78, longtime resident of Alachua, Florida, died Monday, January 21, 2019 in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Hammond was born in Evansville, Indiana on September 16, 1940 to the late Fred and Louise Buzzaird, and moved to Florida as a young girl. She received her education at the University of Florida, and while attending, she married Mr. A. L. Hammond, Jr. in 1959. Following graduation, she began a long career as a professor in the school of Journalism and Communication at the University of Florida, all the while raising her family and eventually retiring in 2001. Mrs. Hammond enjoyed quilting and was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Mr. A. L. Hammond, Jr., in 2006, and by a son, Jeffrey Scott Hammond in 1986.
She is survived by her two sons, Alfred L. (Donna) Hammond, III, and Glenn (Lynn) Hammond, both of Alachua; four grandchildren, Katie (Kyle) Wheeler of High Springs, Mark (Jamie) Hammond, of Ft. White, Jessica (Kyle) Peterson, and Emily Hammond, both of High Springs; five great grandchildren, Corie & Cole Wheeler, Everett Hammond and Jeffrey and Hannah Peterson; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill & Peggy Schuler, of Lawrenceville, Ga.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 A. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry. Interment will follow in Forest Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5 to 7 P. M., at the funeral home.
