Dr. Fran W. Terhune's Obituary
Dr. Fran W. Terhune, 79, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. She was born June 16, 1940, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Paul and Merle Woy. Fran retired from Westside Baptist Church after 17 years as Minister of Education. She was the first woman to serve as president of the Florida Baptist Religious Educators Association. Before answering her call into vocational ministry, she spent 13 years as a writer, editor and administrator at the University of Florida, where she was the Associate Director of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research. Fran received her bachelor's degree from Taylor University, double majoring in English and Biblical Literature. She also earned a master's degree in English from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim Terhune of Gainesville; a sister, Alice Boozer, and her husband, Jack; three children, Betsy Kelberlau and her husband, Tom; Susan Terhune; and Chad Terhune and his wife, B.J.; and two granddaughters, Natalie and Gillian.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, August 9, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church, 10000 W. Newberry Road, Gainesville, with Dr. Gary Crawford and Dr. David Chauncey officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Meadows Central, 4100 NW 39th Ave. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Westside Foundation Mission Scholarship, 10000 W.
