Florence "Betsy" Squier McGowan's Obituary
Florence “Betsy” Squier McGowan, age 71 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was born August 18, 1945 in East Orange, New Jersey to Walter Ashbul and Florence Elizabeth MacFarlane Squier. Betsy worked in the office of Bellamy Forge for twenty-one years as their secretary/bookkeeper. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was head of the prayer ministry for fifteen years.
Betsy is survived by her husband, Thomas “Tom” Howard McGowan; daughter, Molly Jo McGowan of Gainesville, FL and sister, JoAnn Squier Wilkes of Gainesville, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Avenue, with Rev. Steve Price officiating. A reception will follow in the Atrium. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorials to Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Program, 2100 NW 53rd Avenue, Suite A, Gainesville, FL 32653 or Displaced Homemakers Program at Santa Fe College, 3000 NW 83rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32606.
