Felton M Sheffield, Sr.'s Obituary
Felton M Sheffield, Sr, 78, peacefully passed in the early morning of March 16, 2023. A native of Florida, born in Gilchrist County and resided most of his life in Alachua County.
Felton is a 1964 graduate of Gainesville High School where he met his lifelong sweetheart Gail Abby Sheffield who preceded him in passing in 2019 along with their oldest child Denise Sheffield Gunter in 2010. He is survived by his remaining child, their son Felton M. Sheffield Jr (Bif).
Felton and Gail were well known in the community as having the largest and oldest plant nursery in the county established in 1967. You will find over four decades of landscaping throughout the community provided through the 6 ½ acres nursery they operated together. However, what Felton was most proud of was in 2003 winning the award for killing the biggest racked deer for the 2003-2004 hunting season and the fifth-best scored in Florida by Buck Registry (12-pointer | 159 pts). Known as an avid outdoorsman, you often found him, gardening, fishing, or stomping around the woods looking for the next big buck.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at William-Thomas Funeral Home’s Downtown location (404 N. Main Street, Gainesville, Florida 32601). A viewing is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Danny Austin officiating. Following is a graveside burial at the Hague Cemetery at the Corner of CR 237 & US 441 in Hague, between Gainesville and Alachua, Florida.
