F. Darrow Mixon's Obituary
F. Darrow Mixon passed away on October 23rd. Born in Live Oak, Fl on June 5, 1935, Darrow grew up in several small Florida towns before moving to Gainesville, Fl where he graduated from Gainesville High School in 1953. His parents were Albert and Annie Mixon. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy Dorsey Mixon and their daughter, Suzanne Mixon Waite (Phillip), both of whom gave much meaning to his life.
His paternal grandmother influenced his faith-based life and the love of family history which he enjoyed sharing. He was good at repairing/solving household maintenance issues. Darrow enjoyed golfing with friends, Gator football, and collecting pocket knives. Growing and sharing roses and camellias were a weekend passion. Darrow also helped with various charitable projects, "Food for Kids, Gainesville" being a favorite.
Darrow has requested that former co-workers and friends not mourn his passing, but rejoice in family and friends by expressing love and appreciation to them often.
He worked in sales and customer service capacities. During the years when he managed a local ACE Hardware store, he loved providing solutions to customer's wide array of repair issues. Darrow concluded his career retiring from the Alachua County Tax Collector’s Office as Senior Tax Agent.
In lieu of flowers as a memorial gift, Darrow suggested that donations be made to "Food For Kids, Gainesville" and can be done through Trinity United Methodist Church or United Church of Gainesville.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday November 14th, 2024, at 11 am at Williams- Thomas Funeral Home, Westarea 823 NW 143rd St Newberry with Rev. Steve Price officiating.
