We were deeply saddened by this news.

I have fond memories of Gene and Ayhan while attending Buchholz High School in the early 1980s. I left Gainesville in 1985, but I still carry the fond memories with me. I remember moments of friendship, love, and belonging whenever we got together with Gene, Ayhan, my mother (Dr. Nimet Turel), and dear friends in Gainesville.
My wife (Gulbun Alsan) also met Gene and Ayhan on several occasions and is also sending her deep condolences. May he rest in peace.
