Estelle Howze Lee's Obituary
Estelle H. Lee passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, shortly after noon in Gainesville, Florida. Estelle was born November 13, 1918 in Green Cove Springs, Florida to J.T. and Ida Howze.
She graduated from Gainesville High School and went on to attend Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C.
Upon her return to Gainesville, she met Walter R. “Sonny” Lee Jr. After a short courtship, they were married in March of 1941 in Tampa, Florida.
Estelle worked as a clerk for the U.S. Navy in the Seagle Building during WWII. As time passed, she became deeply involved in the screening of children’s eyes in kindergarten and grade school levels.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville Garden Club-Mimosa Circle, the Gainesville Women’s Club and the Gainesville Lionesses and Vision Screening Program.
She had a busy home life raising two children and helping others.
She enjoyed interacting with others and learning. One of her last wishes was that she leave without a lot of fuss and go to her “pink cloud” in the sky. Guess what color the evening clouds were.
She is survived by her son, Walter and daughter, Marina; three grandchildren, Riefler, Robyn and Kevin and three great grandchildren, Seth, Morgan and Olivia.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., in the Iona Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 106 SW Third Street, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Shettler officiating.
