Ernest Talmadge Shelley's Obituary
Ernie Shelley, 71, passed away peacefully at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Ernie was born in Cumberland, Maryland as the second son of Janet Monismith Shelley and Charles Estell Shelley. He was a long-time resident of Gainesville, attended Gainesville High School and was a lifelong Gator fan. He served our country in the United States Army and served locally with the Gainesville Police Department for 9 years during which time he was awarded the Medal of Valor. Ernie also worked for over 25 years as a commercial construction superintendent all over the US. He is survived by two brothers, Rick (Charlotte) Shelley of Lake City, Florida and Bobby (Nancy) Taylor of Orlando, Florida, and two sisters, Karen Lee of Gainesville, Florida and Linda Berliner of Greenville, South Carolina, as well as his ex-wife, Terry Shelley of Gainesville, Florida, and his son, Jeremy (Melissa) Shelley of Raleigh, North Carolina and two grandchildren, Cameron and Madysen, who he adored. He loved to brag about his grandchildren’s awesome accomplishments to everyone he knew, they always made him so proud. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Tracy Lynn Shelley.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry, FL.
