Ericka Leigh Madson's Obituary
Ericka Leigh Madson, 50, of Gainesville, FL passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023, peacefully at home. Ericka was born June 25, 1973, in Burlington, NC to William L. and Donna Rogers Madson. She was raised in Gainesville, Florida. Ericka was born with cerebral palsy and was fortunate to have lived her life in the loving care of her grandmother, Doris Madson, and several caregivers, most recently Barbara Chatman, Denise Bryant, and Jenell Mosley. She graduated from Eastside High School and was very proud to have walked across the stage to receive her diploma. Ericka was a baptized member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ericka collected scarves hand-made by friends from all over the county and had to have one in her hands at all times. She loved to swim, dance, listen to music and watch TV (her favorite shows were Roseanne, I love Lucy and the Golden Girls). She delighted in talking to friends old and new and was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Heaven truly received an angel.
Ericka was preceded in death by cousin Paul Crouse Jr., aunt Jean & uncle Paul Crouse, aunt Darla & uncle Herman York, aunt Deanna & uncle Tom Rogala.
She is survived by her grandmother (whom she lovingly called “Mom”) Doris Madson, her grandfather Ted Madson, her father William “Bill” (Jenny) Madson, her uncle (whom she called “baby doll”) Torben (Sarah) Madson, and brothers William and Kristopher Madson, and niece MacKenzie Madson.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, at 3:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10600 SW 24th Ave. Gainesville, FL. with Bishop Joseph Lowry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Forest Meadows Cemetery West. Attendants are please asked to wear something with Ericka’s favorite color – yellow (casual attire welcomed).
