Emmett H. Massie's Obituary
Emmett H. Massie, 81, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015, in the Gainesville V.A. Medical Center, following a long illness.
Mr. Massie was born on July 16, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts, and there began his career as a broadcast engineer, working on various TV & Radio stations in Boston, before coming to Gainesville, to begin work at the University of Florida television station. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, and while in the Navy, served as the personal driver for the Admiral, where he picked up a lifetime of stories that he loved to tell friends and families. Mr. Massie was very active in veteran’s organizations, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He was also active in the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Massie; children, Joseph Massie, Thomas Massie, Rosalie Blackburn, Joanna Britton, Julie Cruce, Dennis Osborn, Douglas Osborn, Deborah Canalejo, Darryl Osborn, and John Childers; sister, Jackie Miller; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and caregiver, Lisa Breier. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Massie on September 19, 2011.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 12:00 P.M., in the Chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, with Fr. Roland Julien officiating. The family will be receiving friends for one hour prior, beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M., in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
