Elvira Jane Dinkmeyer's Obituary
Rev. 2:10: Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Elvira Jane Dinkmeyer died peacefully on Feb 10, 2025.
Jane was born to Rev. B. Henry and Esther Succop on August 29, 1927, in Big Rapids, Michigan. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Don C. Dinkmeyer, and two sons, David and Don Jr.
She is survived by her son Jim (Lyn), daughter-in-law Deb, five grandchildren: Drew (Lilly), Caitlin (Kent), Stephanie (Josh), Luke (Katie), and Josh, and six great-grandchildren (Parker, Finley, Everett, Connor, Lumi, and a great-grandson due in March. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
Jane grew up in Michigan with her mother and two older brothers, Robert and Ralph. Her father, the Rev. Hal Succop, died when Jane was 3 weeks old with a poem in his pocket addressed to his infant daughter. Her faith journey began early in her life as she looked to her Heavenly Father for guidance. She was raised a Lutheran and was active in the Walther League during her teen years. Jane met her future husband, Don, while serving on staff at Camp Arcadia in Michigan. She and Don moved to Chicago, where they started their family, and later moved to Florida, where she spent her remaining years. Jane was always active in her church community, where she led Bible studies, sang beautifully in the church choir, served as a Stephen Minister, and was a friend and encourager to many. She truly lived her faith. Jane worked as a secretary for several executives and prepared all of her husband’s manuscripts. Jane and Don travelled extensively for both business and pleasure, but their most treasured place was Arcadia. They spent summers there at the family cottage, where Jane participated in camp activities and developed many friendships.
Jane was an incredible wordsmith. The luckiest of us received her letters and cards, which were always rich with clever quips, hilariously spun anecdotes, and effusive expressions of love. Her laughter, wit, and, perhaps most of all, tight hugs will be missed by all who loved her.
A celebration of life will take place in Arcadia in the summer of 2025.
