Elmer Raymond Hudson's Obituary
E. Ray Hudson, Gainesville, Florida
Retired US Navy Captain Ray Hudson, Dental Corps, died at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the age of 79. Dr. Hudson was a native of Newport News, Virginia. He graduated from Warwick High School, Lynchburg College and earned his DDS from the Medical College of Virginia in 1960. Following dental school, he served 33 years in the United Stated Navy. Ray loved his country and was honored to be in the United States Navy. His military career included Naples, Italy, 2 ships, Bethesda, Maryland, US Naval Academy, and other East Coast duty stations. He retired from the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville in 1998. During his retirement years, he could often be found on the Orange Park Country Club golf course.
He is survived by: wife of 55 years, Gloria Hudson; daughter, Kim Wietzke, of Gainesville, Florida; son, David Hudson of Marietta, Georgia; daughter, Joan Silva of Altamonte Springs, Florida; sister, Helen Morgan of Lynchburg, Virginia; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, on his birthday, January 3, 2014 at 10:00am, to celebrate his life. Following the service there will be a full honors burial at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30pm. There will be a reception following the burial at a location that will be announced.
