Ellenmarie Dugan's Obituary
Ellenmarie Dugan of Seattle, Washington was an advocate of pediatric cancer awareness, immune deficiency awareness and autism awareness. She died on May 22, 2018 in Seattle following a long illness. She was 35.
Born in Gainesville, Florida on March 14, 1983, Ellen was the first of two daughters of Edward Thomas and Katherine Dugan. Ellen was a graduate of FW Buchholz High School, Gainesville, Florida in 2001. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado-Boulder where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority. Ellen completed coursework for the Behavioral Intervention in Autism Certificate from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell.
As a result of her educational opportunities and personal dedication, in her early adult life, Ellen worked with children with autism and other disabilities. Later she devoted her life to children and families who were dealing with serious illnesses. She will be remembered for her efforts with the Immune Deficiency Foundation and The Ronan Thompson Foundation.
Ellen is survived by her parents, Ed and Kathy Dugan of Gainesville, Florida; her sister Rosanna Dugan of Denver, Colorado; her paternal grandmother Marie Dugan of Arizona; her uncles and aunts, Brian and Mary McCarthy of Atlanta, Georgia, Craig and Kathy Chastney of Dunwoody, Georgia and Kathy and Ken Simkins of Seattle, Washington; cousins Brian McCarthy, Meghan Welch, Katie Michalak, Molly Wack, Melissa Grace, Erin Chastney, Marie Robinson, and Roselea Duffy.
Ellen was predeceased by her cousin Peter McCarthy, her Aunt Rosanne McCarthy Chastney, her grandmother Dorothy McCarthy, her maternal grandfather Harold McCarthy and her paternal grandfather Edward J. Dugan.
Ellen will be remembered fondly by countless friends and associates. It is hoped by all who love her that her sense of humor, candor, and compassion will form the cornerstone of these memories.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 12:00 p.m., at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Avenue, Gainesville, with Fr. Jose Mesa as celebrant. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 13, 2018, 5:00pm to 7:00pm at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street.
