Elizabeth Mary Balanis' Obituary
Elizabeth Mary Balanis, 84, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 in the Gainesville Healthcare Facility, following a long illness.
Mrs. Balanis was born on February 12, 1930 in West Hartford, Connecticut, to the late Fredrick and Mary Chabasinski. Mrs. Balanis was hearing impaired, and as a young lady, met her future husband, Mr. Charles. A. Balanis, who was also hearing impaired. Together they raised their family in Stamford, Connecticut, where she worked as a school crossing guard, and attended with her family, St. Johns Catholic Church. She moved to Gainesville in 1992 where she again worked for several years as a crossing guard.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002.
She is survived by one son, Charles A. (Sharon) Balanis, Jr., Gainesville; one daughter, June Valerioti (Dan Delanno), of New Rochelle, NY. Three grandchildren, Brandon Balanis, Shane Balanis, and Garrett (Shirly) Balanis; two great grandchildren, Conner Balanis and Alyssa Hunkins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 9:00 A. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville with Dr. Don McGarity officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service, beginning at 8:00 A. M. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Hospice of the Nature Coast, 150 North Main Street, High Springs, FL 32643.
