Edward Wesley Merrell's Obituary
Edward Wesley Merrell, 76, of Newberry, Florida, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, following a sudden illness.
Mr. Merrell was born in Tampa, Florida on July 6, 1939 to the late Tolbert and Ora Merrell. As a young man, he joined the U. S. Air Force, and served for many years, until his retirement in 1980. Following his retirement, he moved to Newberry; he worked in the Veterans Affairs office, helping to transition veterans back to civilian life; he served on the Older Americans Council; and worked for many years as a school bus driver. Mr. Merrell’s passion was to tinker with old Volkswagens.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Holt Merrell.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Merrell; children, Susan (Steve) Tillman, Sara (Pete) Morris, Scott (Sharon) Merrell, Janie (Robbie) Morrison, Jeanie Kaye Butler, Jimmy (Wendy) Butler, and Jerrald Butler; sisters, Joyce Ralyea and Julia (George) Hartz; brothers, Danny (Joyce) Merrell, Robert (Jeanie) Merrell and Tommy (Kaye) Merrell. Twenty-one grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., in the Jonesville Baptist Church, 17222 SW 15th Avenue, Newberry, with Pastor Corey Cheramie, officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in Jonesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St., Newberry. Memorial donations may be made to the ministry of Jonesville Baptist Church.
