Edward Wayne Croft's Obituary
Mr. Edward Wayne Croft, 81, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, January 26, 2015, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Croft was born July 26, 1933 in Berlin, Georgia to the late Ed and Pearl Pilcher Croft. He graduated from Moultrie High School, and soon after joined the U. S. Marine Corps, where he served as an infantryman in the Korean War. Wayne moved to Gainesville in 1976 and began a long career as a salesman for Hughes Supply, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Following his retirement he spent his time traveling, camping and fishing, as well as volunteering at both Alachua General Hospital and at the V. A. Hospital. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Allen Poteet, a sister, Lucille Massa and a brother, John T. Croft
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Helen Joan Croft; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Gary Weseman, of Gainesville and Diana and Keith Holder, of Hawthorne; two sons, Edward Croft and Allen Croft, both of Lake Panasoffkee; Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Andrew Weseman and Riley Prince, also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M., in the Wesley United Methodist Church, 826 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, with Pastor Harry Holloman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Memorial Park East. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 5 to 7 P.M., at the funeral home.
