Edna P. "Boots" Messina's Obituary
With her children at her side, on May 7, 2014 Edna P. “Boots” Messina departed peacefully from this earth to join her Lord and Savior in heaven.
Boots was born on August 2, 1924 in Hammonton, New Jersey to Frank and Maria (DeCicco) Piperata.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Victoria and Anna Maria, and her husband of 59 years, William A. Messina.
Survivors include her brothers, Frank and Robert; her daughter Bunny (Steve) Sabula; her son Bill (Lou Ann) and grandsons, Will and Ward Messina.
After living in Maitland, Florida, for over 50 years, in the summer of 2013, Boots decided to move to Gainesville, Florida to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons. She was extremely happy being close to family and living in her sun-filled apartment in The Village Retirement Community where she spent many hours strolling around the beautiful grounds, and enjoying the peacefulness and beauty of God’s creation.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1738 West University Avenue, Gainesville with Fr. Jose Mesa as celebrant. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the E.T. York Care Center/Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, Florida 32606 or the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception,
400 Michigan Ave NE, Washington, DC 20017
