Edna Lavelle Mount's Obituary
Edna Lavelle Mount, age 82, passed away suddenly at her home in Gainesville, Fl on Oct 22, 2025, with her sweetheart Robert by her side.
Lavelle was born on August 6, 1943, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Archie W and Geraldine L Gottschall. A 1961 graduate of Weaver Consolidated High School in Frederick, Oklahoma, she was active in the Tillman County 4-H and won many local and state awards including the 4-H National Achievement Award and the National Safety Award and scholarship. Lavelle attended Oklahoma State University before moving to Gainesville, Fl where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Florida. After teaching in the Alachua County Public School system for several years, Lavelle decided to make a career change to the field of accounting. She excelled as an accountant and worked with Charles Perry Construction for many years before retiring.
Lavelle was involved in many activities including leadership positions in the Pilot Club International and served on the board of the Southern Scholarship Foundation that provides housing assistance for college students with financial needs. An avid Gator fan, Lavelle enjoyed several UF sports including football, basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics. She was an active member of the Gatortown Gators’ Club and the Florida Goal-Liners’ Club. Lavelle loved to throw big, memorable football tailgating parties that many friends will always remember. She also enjoyed having big parties on their boat at the Conch House Marina in St Augustine, Fl. She had a love and passion for decorating which she displayed at her home and on their boat. She would decorate every room in the house and even the pool.
Because of her outgoing personality, Lavelle never met a stranger. She was a proud Okie, and when she met another person from Oklahoma, it was going to be an hour-long conversation discussing the home state.
Lavelle took great joy in sharing her love with her family, but her granddaughter, Christina, and family dog, Bear, were her favorites. An angel on Earth, she is most certainly one in heaven.
Lavelle is survived by her son Brian (Rattana), son Jason, granddaughter Christina, longtime companion Robert L Kelly, and from Oklahoma, her sister Elwana Fisher, nephew Mark Fisher (Lisa), niece LaQuita (Ronnie) Shaw, niece Lisa (Dodge) Pool. She was predeceased by her parents, brother in law Carl E Fisher and family pets Cricket and Rosco.
Services for Lavelle will be held on Saturday, November 01, 2025, at Williams Thomas Funeral Home, 823 NW 143rd Street (CR 241) Newberry, FL, with visitation at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Cemetery Central.
